5 top mental health resources for business leaders and entrepreneurs

It can be tough at the top. As a business leader or entrepreneur, your team looks to you for direction, motivation and often emotional support, so you’ll need to learn how to safeguard your own mental wellbeing and how to offer an understanding and compassionate ear to those members of your team who might be struggling with their mental health.

Luckily, there are a wide range of organisations here in the UK that offer excellent tools and resources for mental health. Here’s my rundown of 5 top mental health resources to turn to if you or your staff need a helping hand.

ACAS

The go-to organisation for employment law, ACAS also offer a number of good quality resources which explain the duty of care that entrepreneurs and business leaders have towards employees with mental health issues and other legal implications.

It also gives advice on how to help employees through tough times and offers practical guidance on the support required by law.

Mind

With a wellness in action plans, a people manager’s guide to mental health and several resources focused on supporting an employee with mental health issues, Mind is a great resource to bookmark. The mental health charity has an arsenal of excellent quality tools for business leaders looking to put in place solid policies and processes for protecting and supporting their teams.

There are also plenty of tips for creating mentally healthy workplaces and practical advice to ensure that the working environment stays happy and healthy.

Remploy

As well as offering a varied suite of mental health resources, Remploy can also offer an Access to Work Mental Health Support Service, fully funded by the Department of Work and Pensions.

As mental health is seen as a disability in many cases, Remploy has created an informative factsheet and a series of webinars to complement their free support services. It is well worth getting in touch should you identify a staff member who requires additional support.

Mental Health at Work

Time to Change

A proactive organisation which seeks to end the discrimination and stigma attached to mental health, Time to Change offers resources and a call to action for employers and business leaders to help them in their fight towards greater acceptance of mental health issues in the workplace
